March for Tibet - Sat 22 March

Show your support for Tibetans in Tibet!

This march is being organised by Tibetans and supporters in the UK in response to the continuing violent suppression of Tibetan protest in Tibet. Come and lend your voice to what is fast becoming a global movement for change in the region.

The march will pass the Chinese Embassy and end in Trafalgar Square. Bring friends, families and flags; protest placards provided.

When: 12-2pm Saturday 22 March 2008.
Where: Assemble 11.30am at Park Crescent (West side), London, near Regent's Park.

I am an American Buddhist and I don't like what I saw on the news on Tibet. Mob stoning passers-by, hitting motorists(men, women, girls) and dragging them off their bikes, setting fire to bikes, turning over trucks and lighting them on fire, smashing stores and setting them ablaze. I saw charred remains of 5 store clerks who were trapped in their store when it was looted and torched. THESE ARE VIOLENT , NOT PEACEFUL ACTS. FREEDOM OF SPEECH COMES WITH RULE OF LAW. THESE ACTS ARE NOT COMPASSION PREACHED IN BUDDHISM. WHOEVER BEHIND THESE ACTS ARE ANTI-BUDDHA, ANTI-CHRIST AND GO AGAINST ALL HUMAN DECENCY.
DALAI AND R GERE, you have broken the vow of PANCHA SILA or FIVE PRECEPTS:
#1 Thou shall not kill
#2 Thou shall not take what is not given
#3 Thou shall not distort facts
#4 Thou shall refrain from misuse of the senses
#5 Thou shall refrain from self-intoxication through alcohol or drugs

  well i understand every people ask for more freedom especially due to media and one side's story China got bad record in 1959 and 1989
  
  but nowadays when those people involved in those incedent almost retirmed or even dead...
  
  suddenly Chinese becomes murderer and killer when we even haven't done any thing......
  I am a Chinese student in UK for 7 years now, according to west media no massacre/killing happens('peaceful protester killing innocent people happened thou) but media accuse China in the first day riot happens and now what? Damage done already even no evidence found that Chinese is killing tibetan.
  but still the general people only hear one side story

  Whilst I believe in non-violence, I think you need to remember that these are people who have been oppressed for 58 years. How they choose to struggle against their oppresser (ie. the CHinese government) is up to them, and not for you to condemn. Also, I don't think Richard Gere or the Dalai Lama themselves have been beating anyone up, killing, stealing, lying, looting, or misusing senses. Gere may enjoy a tipple, but I'm sure his holiness does not.

  Hi
  All I can say is 1.5 million Tibetans murdered since China's
  invasion of Tibet ! also this Communist goverment has killed
  10 million Chinese ! they seem to get off on murder and torture!
  so its about time they joined the human race !

  All civilizations have skeletons in the closet. However, as far as I am
  concerned, physical consequence counts much more than intentions. Number
  also matters. Killing 10M people is worse than killing 1M. China has had
  a longer history and a bigger population than West Europe. Yet look at
  the world now. The Western Europeans almost own Australia, the Americas,
  and parts of Africa and Asia. How much has China ended up with by
  comparison? The Western Europeans have conquered most of the world
  already, and they are still complaining about the little Tibet China has.
  
  Within two centuries of Columbus's arrival, the Native American
  population dwindled to less than 10% its previous level. During that
  same period, European population tripled. How would His Holiness the
  Dalai Lama explain this? Don't tell me that those tens of millions of
  Native Americans reincarnated into white Europeans who continued the
  genocide.
